A school club wants the logo as a keychain. You have an SVG, not a CAD seat. STLShift extrudes SVG paths into an STL in the browser: height, bevel, optional baseplate, then a mesh you can open in a slicer. It is a relief/keychain tool, not Fusion. Open paths, hairline strokes, and self-intersecting logos will make a mesh that looks fine on screen and fails on the printer. Use it for badges, lithophanes-adjacent reliefs, and simple signs. Do not use it for load-bearing parts or organic sculpture. Look at the slicer's manifold warnings even when the on-screen preview looked fine.
Happy path: a closed, clean SVG of a wordmark or icon. Set extrusion height in millimeters, add a slight bevel if the edges should not be knife-sharp, and enable a baseplate if the shape would otherwise be a bunch of islands (the letters in a stencil font). Download STL, slice with your usual profiles, print in a filament that can hold thin serifs.
Failure cases are famous among makers. Compound paths with holes (the counter in an O) must be real holes, not a white square sitting on black. Strokes that were never outlined will vanish or become hair-thin walls. Preview the mesh and look for non-manifold edges. If the slicer screams, go back to the SVG and union/offset there, then re-extrude. STLShift will not Boolean like CAD.
When not to use it: mechanical parts with tolerances, threads, and fits. Also skip photographs traced in SVGShift; the mesh will be a field of spikes. Privacy is local, which is nice for unreleased marks. After download, still run the STL through your slicer's repair if it offers one. A pretty preview is not a manifold guarantee.
A closed SVG of a one-color owl mark, 80 mm wide in the preview. Height 2.4 mm, small bevel, 1.2 mm baseplate so the owl sits as one part. STL is a few hundred kilobytes.
